I will never apologise for being truly myself ever again
Different’s that me,
we all are you see,
but mine has a name,
and I don’t fit the game,
Yet I crave to be told I belong,
And it’s okay to just be.
I Am Hannah- We Are Chickenshed
I Am Hannah is my original performance piece - a fusion of spoken word, poetry, and music (Fix You alongside my flute) - first developed for the NCB Project, then performed as part of We Are Chickenshed 2025, and most recently showcased at BEAM Theatre for the Roots and Renaissance Festival.
The piece is raw and deeply personal. It tells my story of being labelled “too much” and “not enough,” of surviving years in psychiatric units, and of being told I was broken and beyond hope. Through poetry and music, I turn that history into defiance: a refusal to stay silent, and a celebration of survival as power.
Audiences have described I Am Hannah as “brave,” “heart-wrenching,” and “a performance you can feel in your bones.” It isn’t just art - it’s protest. It’s testimony. It’s a call for change in a world that too often excludes or tokenises disabled and neurodivergent voices.
At its core, this piece is bigger than me. It’s for every person who has been dismissed, silenced, or labelled a problem. Performing I Am Hannah with Chickenshed - a company rooted in radical inclusion - has been a chance to stand not just for myself, but for all of us who were told we didn’t belong.
We are Chickenshed. I am Hannah. And I was never broken.
