Welcome to Legally Detained: A New Chapter
I can’t quite believe I’m finally writing the first post on my brand-new website. This space has been a long time coming, and I want to start by saying thank you for being here.
Legally Detained was born from my survival. From being told I’d never achieve anything. From systems that tried to silence me. From a lifetime of feeling like I didn’t belong. Now, it’s a platform where I flip the script - turning pain into power, difference into strength, and survival into creativity.
What to expect
This blog isn’t about polished perfection or pretending everything is fine when it’s not. It’s about truth - messy, raw, hopeful truth.
Some weeks, you’ll get long reflections where I unpack trauma, survival, or the ways our systems fail people like us. Other times, it’ll be short, sharp bursts - a poem, a rant, or a thought I can’t let go of. I’ll share behind-the-scenes of my creative projects, my activism, and the things that keep me alive when the world feels too heavy.
I’ll also be reposting some of my older pieces. The ones that came from hospital beds, long nights, or moments where writing was the only way I could breathe. Those posts still matter, because they remind me - and hopefully you - that survival is not just possible, it’s powerful.
Think of this blog as a scrapbook of survival and defiance: stories, art, and activism stitched together with honesty.
A Space for Us
I’ve spent so much of my life feeling like I was on the outside looking in. Too loud, too sensitive, too difficult, too much. Maybe you’ve felt that too. This blog is my way of saying: you are not alone here.
This is a space where difference isn’t just tolerated - it’s celebrated. Where neurodivergent, disabled, and marginalised voices aren’t pushed to the sidelines, but brought right into the centre. Where we don’t water ourselves down to fit someone else’s mould.
I won’t always have answers, but I’ll always be honest. I’ll share the good and the brutal. The fight and the hope. And my wish is that when you read these posts, you feel a little less broken, a little more seen, and a little more powerful in your own survival.
Because Legally Detained isn’t just about me - it’s about us. About building something that says: we were never broken at all.
Final thoughts
This is just the beginning. I don’t know exactly where this blog will take me - or us - but I do know it’s going to be real, raw, and unapologetically honest. Some posts might make you cry, some might make you angry, and some might just make you feel a little less alone. If even one person finds comfort, recognition, or courage here, then it’s worth it. So here we are: a new chapter, a blank page, and the promise that together, we’ll keep writing our own rulebook.
With honesty, survival, and a little bit of defiance,
Hannah xx
